Building Climate Resilience

Latest Release

January 30, 2024

Communities across the United States have a massive opportunity to leverage federal investments to mitigate the impacts of climate change. This report serves as a guide to ensuring those funds are distributed equitably and strategically — saving lives, improving well-being, and strengthening communities.

FROM THE TEAM

Pathways to Prosperity: From Covid to Climate

Covid-19 and climate change are inextricably linked. The same marginalized communities are disproportionately affected by each disaster. And they both exacerbate inequities, undermining community resilience and making states less adaptable to changing conditions.

While the large-scale health and economic shocks of the pandemic have passed, climate shocks are increasing in intensity and frequency. Thus our team is shifting our focus to climate change, utilizing our analytical and data communication expertise, to address a longer-term crisis that has existential implications.

Pathways to Prosperity is a project of the National Conference on Citizenship.

About

Americans are increasingly experiencing the direct impacts of climate change. Southern cities, rural and coastal areas are particularly at risk. The good news is that massive federal investments are available to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help Americans adapt to a changing environment. As communities come together to access federal funds, a shared, evidence-based understanding of state-specific climate and equity issues will be essential for ensuring we mitigate the most severe impacts of climate change.

Pathways to Prosperity: Building Climate Resilience provides easily accessible data and focused analysis to highlight important aspects of climate equity issues and empower communities to actively participate in shaping their own climate futures.
